Dianne Arbus exhibition

I was told about the Dianne Arbus exhibition showing at Barnsley Civic, so I decided to take the train from Leeds to see it. The exhibition was in a large room that had smaller sections walled off within the room which split up the images into categories. It showed a large collection and variety of Arbus’s work and had an adjoining room which had an informative timeline of Arbus’s life printed across the room.

My favourite image in the exhibition was ‘a house on a hill” which was exactly what the title suggests. I enjoy this image because of the simplicity and intentional lack of details, the photo is dark making the house and the hill almost blend into one shape which makes you focus on the silhouettes against the skyline rather than the specific details within the image. This image was quite different to the rest of the work in the exhibition which drew my attention to it more.
